US markets closed higher with the S&P 500 up 0.2% to 6,870.40 (near October’s all-time high), Nasdaq 100 gaining 0.4%, and Dow rising 0.2% as September’s core PCE rose 0.2% matching forecasts (the third consecutive month at that level with year-over-year remaining just below 3%), while 10-year Treasury yields climbed 4 basis points to 4.14% marking Treasuries’ worst week since June, and swap markets priced in a rate cut at Wednesday’s Fed meeting.
European stocks finished essentially flat with the Stoxx 600 closing marginally lower as automotive posted its best week since April, while energy lagged.
The FT-Chicago Booth survey cites concern among officials about the impact of a weak jobs market and high prices on Americans, with a potential rate cut expected. China's exports recovered in November after falling in October, according to data from the customs office revealed on Monday, with the country's trade surplus also topping $1 trillion for the first time.
