Global markets were mixed Friday as US markets remained closed for Independence Day while futures declined and Australian stocks hit records, with S&P 500 futures (-0.6%), Dow Jones futures (-0.6%) and Nasdaq 100 futures (-0.6%) all falling amid renewed trade tensions ahead of Tuesday's July 9 deadline. European markets closed lower with the Euro Stoxx 600 (-0.5%) declining as Trump threatened unilateral tariffs up to 70% if trade agreements aren't reached, while trade-exposed sectors like mining and autos underperformed despite Swiss pharma gains on potential tariff exemptions. Trump's administration reportedly prepared AI chip export restrictions to Malaysia and Thailand to counter China smuggling, while oil prices declined ahead of an OPEC+ meeting considering production increases, and Bitcoin dropped 2.2% in its largest single-day decline since June 22.
